What we collect — and what stays on your phone.

This Privacy Policy explains how the CarSpend mobile application ("the app"), on both Android and iOS, handles your information. The app is provided by USOTECH SRL ("we", "us", "our").

Summary

Data stored on your device

All app content stays in local storage on your phone. We have no access to it. You can export it to a file you control (Settings → Export data) and import it back at any time.

Device backups

On Android, your device's built-in backup (Google's Auto Backup and device-to-device transfer) may include the app's records so they survive a phone upgrade or reinstall. This backup is managed by your device and your own Google account, encrypted, and never visible to us — you can turn it off in your device's backup settings. Attached photos and documents are kept out of the cloud backup; your AI API keys are stored encrypted and cannot be read from a backup on another device.

AI assistant (optional)

The "Ask" feature is optional:

• On-device (where your device supports it): runs locally — nothing leaves your phone.
• Cloud: if you enable the cloud assistant by adding your own API key, your question and a short summary of the selected vehicle's data are sent to the AI provider you choose — Google (Gemini), OpenAI, Anthropic or DeepSeek — to generate a reply, handled under that provider's privacy policy. We do not store these prompts. Your API key is stored encrypted on your device and is never sent to us.

Purchases

In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by your app store — Google Play on Android or the Apple App Store on iOS. We do not receive or store your payment details; the store handles the transaction and tells the app only whether you have an active entitlement.

Permissions

• Internet — used for the optional cloud AI request, for fetching currency exchange rates (only currency codes are sent), and for loading map tiles from OpenStreetMap when you view a trip route (like any website, OSM's servers see your IP address and the map area requested). The core app otherwise works offline.
• Location — used to record the route of a trip while you're recording one (a visible notification is always shown), and once at setup to suggest your currency and units. Your location and routes are processed and stored on your device only — they are never sent to us or anyone else. The app does not track location in the background.
• Camera — for scanning pump receipts and dashboard readings. Recognition runs on your device; photos you keep are stored locally with the entry.
• Bluetooth — to recognise when your phone connects to your car, so the app can offer to record a trip. The paired device's address is stored locally.
• Notifications — maintenance reminders and the "car connected — start recording?" prompt.
• Photo / document picker — only the items you explicitly attach to an entry, stored locally with that entry.

Analytics & advertising

The app contains no third-party advertising and does not collect analytics or usage tracking.

Data sharing

We do not share your data with anyone, except the AI provider when you choose to use the cloud assistant, as described above.

Data retention & deletion

Because your data lives on your device, you control it. Deleting an entry removes it; uninstalling the app removes all app data from the device; importing a backup replaces the current data. On Android, a copy may remain in your own Google account's device backup (see "Device backups" above) until your device's backup replaces or expires it — restoring the app can bring that data back. There is no server-side copy for us to hold or delete.

Children

CarSpend is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time; the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
